Search Engine Meta-Tag Tips
Title:
The
TITLE tag is the most important tag for
search engine placement. You should
never exclude it if you want to get
listed. The TITLE tag must come directly
after the HEAD tag for some search engines
to recognize it. Make sure you put your
most important keywords in the title,
since search engines pay special attention
to the words in the TITLE.
Description:
A
short, plain language description of the
document listed on your page. This is used
by search engines to describe your
document. Make sure you put your most
important keywords in the description so
search engines can index them. AltaVista,
Google, and Infoseek have a 1000 character
limit for the description.
Keywords:
Comma-separated
keywords to be used by search engines to
find your website. Avoid repeating
keywords, as some search engines will
penalize you for this. AltaVista, Google,
and Infoseek have a 1000 character limit
for the keywords.
