If you want immediate traffic!
If you want immediate traffic to your current or
a new website then you should invest in pay per
click (Overture or Google Adwords systems).
Traditional search optimization is a long term
slow process where pay for performance is the
shot in the arm to get your site(s) going. If
you have an commerce site or a site that you
need to make money from then invest in getting
started in either Overture or Google's pay per
click programs. Read as much about traditional
site optimization as possible. Start
implementing what you are learning and over time
you will increase your non paid listings in the
engines. In the end the best program is using
both methods, paid and free listings.
The bidding price can be quite expensive for big
search engines. If you cant afford Overture or
Google. Even with all the Pay Per Click hype and
SEO techniques don't overlook the importance of
simply being listed where your own target market
is - look for Niche Portals and quality local
directories. You would be surprised at how much
traffic you can get for a $50 from some good
directories / portals / link listings, banner
trades.
No matter how much money you have to spend on
marketing - if your site isn't built right - it
won't make a difference. Spend well attention on
optimizing your site and site meta tags, image
tag words, keywords as folder names etc. Also
identify the popular search engines for your
industry. Techy oriented content/industry is
what Google is high at, while retail stuff for
individuals is mostly better at Overture.
Golden Rule #1: Review your site's content and
'optimize' it for the keywords that you are
hitting at!

Why Your Not Getting Listed?
I've submitted my site to that search engine
100's of times why won't they list me?
That could be your problem right there. Don't
submit your site more than twice a month to a
search engine, as sometimes they have so many
sites to go through that it takes them a while
to get to yours. They might think you're
spamming their engine and never add your
listing.
Be careful not to oversubmit. Submit no more
than 3-5 pages per site to a search engine on
the same day. When submitting pages from several
sites, it can be an extra precaution to clear
cookies and/or reboot in between submissions if
you're using dial-up with dynamic IPs. There are
many reasons for your site not to get listed.
Page errors, bad HTML coding, broken links, and
broken images are just a few of the more common
ones. How can you check if you have any of these
problems with your site. Well, there are a few
good places you can go for free that will
analyze your site and tell you what you need to
do to either fix your coding or make it
better.

Legal Tricks That Help ...
We cant say it enough times. Make sure you
have a good Meta tag. Use the meta tag generator
on this RCP faq page. Use image tag keywords,
Check your competitor websites meta tag.
Alphabetize Many search directories list
sites alphabetically, Yahoo! in particular. When
submitting to a directory or designing your
title, try to make the title start with the
letter 'A' or another letter at the beginning of
the alphabet.
Lower case your Meta Tags! Make sure you
use lower case letters in your page's Meta Tags.
Oddly enough, most search engines don't bring up
the same results if a search term is entered in
upper case letters as it would if your keywords
were in lower case letters.
Title Stacking Just as the name implies,
you would repeat the title tag in your code. It
looks like this:
< Title>Your Site Title< /Title>
< Title>Your Site Title< /Title>
< Title>Your Site Title< /Title>
Don't repeat this too many times. 3-4 times is
more than enough. Anymore than that and your
page may get booted for spamming.
Use Splash Pages Splash pages are a much
better way to submit your site to search engines
than trying to list your main page. On a splash
page, usually your coding is correct, all your
links work, and it takes a very short amount of
time to load. You can also use different
descriptions and keywords on splash pages to get
a better listing.

Explain the Meta-Tag & Free Meta-Tag
generator
Title: The TITLE tag is the most
important tag for search engine placement.
You should never exclude it if you want to get
listed. The TITLE tag must come directly after
the HEAD tag for some search engines to
recognize it. Make sure you put your most
important keywords in the title, since search
engines pay special attention to the words in
the TITLE.
Description: A short, plain language
description of the document listed on your page.
This is used by search engines to describe your
document. Make sure you put your most
important keywords in the description so search
engines can index them. AltaVista, Google, and
Infoseek have a 1000 character limit for the
description.
Keywords: Comma-separated keywords to be
used by search engines to find your website.
Avoid repeating keywords, as some search engines
will penalize you for this. AltaVista, Google,
and Infoseek have a 1000 character limit for the
keywords.
